This page is the shape of the bill, not a second copy of every part price. Springs are on the spring cost page. A whole new door is on the installation cost page. The line-by-line repair table, cables included, is on the repair hub. What follows is how those numbers get built, and when to stop repairing.
The wide range three companies print
| Who published it | What they call a usual repair | Date on their page |
|---|---|---|
| Island Door Pros, Plainview | $150 to $650 for most repairs | April 1, 2026 |
| Expo Garage Doors, Roslyn | $150 to $450, with minor adjustments and sensors near $120 to $180, and spring or opener work at $200 to $380 including parts and labor | Read October 2026 |
| Sumo Garage Doors, Westbury | Can start around $150. Labor in Nassau and Suffolk at $85 to $150 an hour | Repair page, undated on the range; opener article August 7, 2026 for the hourly rate |
A $180 quote and a $600 quote can both sit inside Island Door Pros’ band. They are not the same job. Ask which row of the repair hub’s table the technician is on: one spring, both, cables, rollers, a panel, or an opener. If they will not name the part, you cannot compare them.
The visit, before any part
The first line on the invoice is sometimes a trip, sometimes not.
| Company | What they print about showing up |
|---|---|
| Precision, Farmingdale | $69 to come out, inspection and a recommendation included. Waived if you approve the repair. Also waived if they miss a 4 hour arrival window during regular business hours. |
| Sumo, Westbury | Diagnostic fee $50 to $150 across Long Island, and they say most reputable companies credit it if you approve the work on that visit. |
| Island Door Pros, Plainview | Diagnosis at no charge, and a written quote before work, on its spring and panel pages. |
| Expo, Roslyn | Says its estimates on site are free, and that it uses flat rates. |
Get the visit rule in the same sentence as the repair price. A “$200 spring” that still owes a $69 or $150 trip is a different number from one that does not.
Nassau County’s consumer checklist calls a fair deposit anything under 15% and wants the work described in writing. Use that when the job is large enough to be a contract, not a same-day spring.
When the repair price means a new door
Island Door Pros, in the same April 2026 article as the $150 to $650 band, gives a rule of thumb: if the repair costs more than half of a new door, replacement is usually the better value, especially when the door is around 20 years old or older. It does not publish your door’s replacement price in that sentence. Use the installation cost page for single and double ranges from Long Island companies, then do the half test on those ranges yourself.
A single panel is the case that sits in the middle. Island Door Pros prices panel replacement at $250 to $550, which is inside the usual repair band and well under a new door. The panel page is where Clopay’s rule lives: one or two sections can be swapped, and an older door whose sections are no longer made is a full replacement. Do not apply the half-price rule until you know the section is still available.
Cables at $150 to $185 for the pair, from that same Island Door Pros table, are a repair. They are not a reason to buy a door unless the technician is also quoting panels, track, and springs in one pile. Add those lines up before you use the half test.
After hours is a different bill
Daytime rates above are not the night rates. Sumo’s opener article puts an after-hours flat amount at $75 to $150, or a higher hourly rate, for evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays. Precision’s repair pages say evenings, weekends, and short notice are not extra. The emergency page sets those two policies next to each other. If the car is outside and the door is down and latched, waiting for the morning rate is a real option. If the door is open to the street, it may not be.
How to line up two estimates
Ask both companies to mark the same boxes:
- the part, and whether it is one or a pair
- visit fee, and whether it comes off
- labor included or by the hour at Sumo’s $85 to $150 band
- daytime or after hours
- warranty on the part and on the labor
- county license number, checked with the license guide
Then set the totals next to the band in the first table. A number under $150, or one that will not name a part, is the one to slow down on.
