A spring quote is three decisions dressed up as one number: one spring or both, which cycle rating, and whether the trip fee stays on the bill. The spring repair page covers how the springs work and why this is not a do-it-yourself job. This page is only the money.
One spring, both springs, extension springs
Two Long Island companies print spring ranges. Precision Garage Door Service of Long Island does not, so it is not in the table.
| What they price | Island Door Pros, Plainview (April 2026) | Sumo Garage Doors, Westbury | Expo Garage Doors, Roslyn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Torsion, single | $175 to $220 | starts around $170 | |
| Torsion, both | $240 to $310 | more than a single, no pair range printed | |
| Extension springs, the pair | $140 to $190 | ||
| Spring work, parts and labor, their combined line | $200 to $380 |
Island Door Pros says it always recommends both springs, because the second one is close to failing and the added cost is small beside another service call. Sumo says springs are replaced, not patched, and that a higher cycle rating costs a little more up front and lasts longer under daily use. Sumo does not print that upcharge.
Expo’s $200 to $380 line covers spring replacements and opener repairs together, so it is not a pure spring price. Ask which one they mean.
What has to be true before the number is real
Precision’s spring page says a phone price would need the door’s size, its weight, and whether the system is torsion or extension. The company says it stocks more than 30 spring types for that reason. On its repair FAQ it sets the visit at $69, including the inspection and the recommendation, and says the fee comes off if you approve the work. It also says a spring repair includes a safety inspection of the other hardware at no added charge, because those parts often went in with the springs.
Island Door Pros, on its spring page, says the diagnosis is free, you get a written quote before any work, and labor carries a 90 day warranty. On its installation page it states Nassau home improvement license H2341500 and Suffolk license 54782-H. Those numbers are the company’s own claim. Search them on the county lookups in the license guide before you book. Precision’s spring page states Suffolk home improvement license 54225-H. Same rule: look it up, do not take this page as the county record.
Cycle rating is the quiet part of the price
Island Door Pros says the 25,000 cycle springs it stocks cost more than 10,000 cycle springs and last roughly three to four times as long. It does not publish the dollar gap. Precision says many springs on the market are rated 5,000 to 15,000 cycles, and that the springs it installs are rated 25,000 to 50,000 or more. One cycle, Precision says, is one trip up and one trip down.
If one quote is far under the table, ask the cycle rating before you treat it as the cheaper job. A 10,000 cycle spring and a 25,000 cycle spring are different parts.
Cables on the same visit
Island Door Pros prices a pair of lift cables at $150 to $185 and says mismatched cables pull the door out of line. If the technician is already at the shaft for a spring, that is the moment to ask for the cable price. The cable page is the longer version. Sumo says a spring and cable replacement is usually finished in under an hour after arrival.
Make the two quotes describe one job
Ask each company:
- one spring, or both, and the price of each
- torsion or extension
- the cycle rating, in writing
- whether the visit fee is still on the bill if you say yes
- whether cables and rollers are included or extra
- the warranty on the springs and on the labor
Then put the answers next to the table. A quote that will not name the cycle rating is not ready to compare.
